A few of my favorite satires…
1.) a. CORRECTION: BUSH FAINTS AFTER CHOKING “THE” PRETZEL, NOT CHOKING “ON” PRETZEL
I enjoyed this satire because it has a catchy title and it draws people in because many people do not like President Bush and they make fun of him. Many people were amused by him choking on his pretzel and this is basically making fun of him. Also as you can see by his approval ratings, people don’t like him but they do like to make fun of him. Also it is saying that most presidents were too busy doing “other things” instead of thinking about the problems in America.
b. STUDY FINDS YOU REALLY DON’T MAKE A DIFFERENCE
I also enjoyed this one because it has a catchy title. It draws you in because you want to know what they mean and why you don’t make a difference. Also, I believe that it is saying that the everyday working person does not get noticed and basically is working for nothing because the pay has hit a major downfall. Many people work for minimum wage and cannot live off of it. Basically I think that they are trying to make a point that the American workers are underpaid and un-noticed.
c.RECORD 75 MILLION AMERICANS NOW PRETENDING THEY OWN THEIR OWN HOMES
Last but not least, I liked this satire because the title makes you question what they mean by Americans are pretending that they own their own homes. After reading this satire I believe that they are trying to point out the fact that many people spend a bunch of money on things they are owned by the government. Basically whether you have paid for something in full or not you still do not own it because the government does. So basically… what can we as Americans say we own?

President Bush helps us unite with other countries by taking our soldiers over to Iraq to help them with their problems. After investigating whether or not Iraq contianed weapons of mass destruction, none were found, but we stayed to make friends.
Obviously the Iraqis want us over there because they are being very friendly by attacking our soldiers and protesting against us. So why are we still over there? Oh, that’s right, because President Bush wants us to unite with the Iraqis and help them. Although, isn’t that actually hurting America by helping them? We keep attacking them to make them into a democratic nation by forcing them. Why do we need them to be a democratic nation?
President Bush’s approval ratings show that he is loved by many and many are supporters of what he is currently doing while in office. Also he is doing such a good job over in Iraq having our soldiers fight that the war will probably only last a few more years. Hopefully by that time we will have possibly succeeded in converting the Iraqis from what they wanted to be to being something else. Don’t we live in a non-conformist nation. America, “land of the free and home of the brave.”

I thought that this was very satirical. I got the point that you were not agreeing with President Bush’s decisions to continue the war, yet you stated how you felt in a semi-joking way. The nature of your problem is very real and something that most americans have had on their minds since we invaded Iraq. I feel that the tone is appropriate because you are expressing your views without being condesending to the issue. Overall i think it is a good satire.

I believe that my satire needs work, although, I honestly believe that it is for the most part a satire. The reason that I believe that it is a satire is because it is very sarcastic and satiracal about my topic of the war in Iraq. On the other hand, I do need to add a lot more and possibly take out some of the questions. For not being exactly sure what I was doing I think that I did a decent job on being satirical.

Many Americans agree that we should not be at war with Iraq but do they really know why we are there? We all believed that we were going to war with Iraq because they were hiding weapons of mass destruction, but we didn’t find any. Because we did not find any of these weapons and still did not leave, President Bush gave us a new reason as to why were are staying there. “Protection of the country’s vast oil fields, which he said would otherwise fall under the control of terrorist extremists,” said President Bush.
Many people also believe that we are spending too much money on the war in Iraq which is not true. The everyday hardworking American money is the only money that has been spent on the war. We haven’t wasted the money. It has been spent on supplies for our troops such as ammunituon as well as for the rebuilding of churches and homes in Iraq that we have bombed and torn down. So far we have only spent $247,674,441,571 on the war in Iraq which is nothing compared to our national debt that is currently at $8,281,284,126,602.
Another big issue with the war on terror is why we are trying to help them have a democratic nation. The answer is right infront of our faces. The Iraqis obviously want us to help them which is why they are protesting and killing off our soldiers. Also instead of leaving after soldiers have died for our country, why not send over some more troops?!
Many believe that the problem that President Bush is trying to solve has absolutely nothing to do with weapons of mass distruction. Instead people think that he is only trying to conquer Iraq because of it’s oil. This cannot be true because we purchase oil off of Iraq and the gas prices are very reasonable.
After a few years of being at war, maybe we will be able to convert the Iraqis from the way of life that they were content with to the way we want them to live. Don’t we live in a non-conformist nation?! America, “land of the free and home of the brave.”

Hey Iris! I like the revisions you made to your satire. I think that there still may be some grammatical issues to work out, but I think that for the most part it is clear that you are being satirical on the issue. There may be some more things that you could add to further convey your sarcasm, but I think that this is a good start and better than the original copy. I also like the use of the quotes and actual facts about the deficit that you used. Good thinking! I think that this is a really good topic to expand on and I think that you are on the right track.

Many Americans agree that we should not be at war with Iraq but do they really know why we are there? Well to be perfectly honest, no one knows why, not even President Bush himself. But does it really matter if we know why we are over there? The answer is no. It does not matter how we got there but why we are staying and I can give you five good reasons as to why we should not pull our troops out of Iraq.
First of all we should stay over in Iraq because we have not yet succeeded in converting it into a democratic nation. However, we do not need them to be democratic we just want to test our power. We are trying to see if we can convert them like we did to others previously with religion.
Next is the issue of money being spent due to the war. If you ask me we should stay over there to increase the money being spent! So far we have only spent $247,674,441,571 on the war and our national debt is only at a measly $247,674,441,571, which is close to nothing! Besides that we make the money in the U.S. so why do we care if we owe ourselves money we can always just make more.
Another reason as to why we should stay is because the gas prices have become extremely cheap! It is only two dollars a gallon which means that it will only cost the average person $40 a week to fill their gas tank. With a minimum wage job money like that is like pocket change!
The fourth reason why we should stay is because we have many soldiers that have gone through days, months, and even years of training and they finally get a chance to prove themselves. If they were not fighting right now what would they have been practicing for all this time? I mean if they weren’t fighting they would have wasted their time training for nothing.
Last but not least we should stay in Iraq because every other great president such as Nixon and Johnson have been remembered for putting the U.S. in a war that was going on while they were in office. President Bush is a great president and I know that we all want him to be remembered as one of the most successful presidents in history.
Even though there are more then five good reasons for us to continue the war in Iraq I feel that these five are the most important. Whoever says that we should not be at war needs to look at the facts and see that us being over there is a good thing. The war is making the economy better and giving our soldiers something to do. And who knows maybe after a few years of fighting we will be able to convert the Iraqis from the way of life that they were content with to the way we want them to live. We are so lucky to live in a non-conformist nation! America, “land of the free and home of the brave.”
