Lesson 13
Question 1
-U.N. SETS “GLOBAL MARCH MADNESS” FIELD
Selection Committee Gives U.S., China No. 1 seeds; Iraq a No. 3 in Mideast
I like this beacuse of how they related the worlds military competition to the NCAA. They even set up a bracket of the 63 nations and acted as if they were going to battle head to head. I thought it was an effective way to deterimine the dispute over who is number 1 in the world, in terms of military power. What made me laugh is how the commisions were not made at the idea, but they were mad at the seedings.
-EMPLOYEE-SLAPPING WIDESPREAD, EFFECTIVE
Major Corporations Turning into ‘Swat Shops’
What i find humerous about this satire is the fact that nobody disagrees with the concept. Although they do not disagree with the concept, all the employes feel their should be a line drawn to whom can be slapped… this line is just below them. I found this a good way to show how workers feel they should have special liberties, but nobody else is to have these liberties. They all think that their co-workers are getting to many benifits, but in reality they want these same benifits. This is a way of “increasing competition”.

Satire
Just about everyone have problems with time. It seems they all complain about how they have too much to do or simply they don’t have time to do it. I think the real question is “Are they managing their time wisely”? The answer to this question can be found in just about everyone in the world. People waste time. It’s as easy as that. Or is it that easy? Are their other factors that we must account for? Do people waste time, or is there really too much to accomplish each and every day.
Everyone can say that they have, at one time in their lives, felt pressed for time. You see it everyday, people running around in a frantic rush trying to do three things at once. We need to find reasons for the lack of time, as well as ways to correct this restraint.
A main reason for the lack of time in peoples lives is that everyone waste time. Many people state that they have too much to do and how they will never find time to get it all done. They continue to say that there is nothing they can do to make more time. They feel that everything they do is top priority, and if they were to cut anything out of their day then they would be missing out on important aspects of their lives. Although they say there is nothing they can do to make more time, everyone spends time on unnecessary things. A recent study shown that the average American who says they have 10-15 hours of free time a week really has 20-30 hours of free time. (20/20) People watch more TV, read books, and sit around then they think they do, and then they complain about how they have no time. People need to quit being lazy and take care of what they need to take care of. Sleep is another big factor in time loss. Lack of time in a major problem in everyone’s lives today.
We need to find some solutions to this problem. One solution is to stop sleeping or sleep very little. (2-3 hours a night.) This is very possible. I mean, “Who really needs sleep”? Sleep is very overrated and is not needed for your everyday functioning, so I believe we must stop sleeping. I you stop sleeping, just imagine the amount of time you will have to do other things.
Another solution is to quit school. If you quit school you will no longer need to do homework, play sports, or spend 8 hours in a building each day. Is a known fact that nobody likes school, so therefore why go? I mean it really is point less. Who needs a diploma? Is it really that important? Why can’t we just fall back onto the military or factory jobs? So when you really break it down, it shows you how school is a burden on time and can be cut out of your everyday lives.
The last solution is to actually try and manage time wisely, and more efficiently. Who wants to do that when they can quit school, or stop sleeping? (Which would give you more free time to waste) If you manage you time you have to think and try. That involves being smart, and I’m too lazy for that. By managing you time you can go to school, sleep, play sports and still have free times. That sounds like a busy day! So when is comes down to a solution for this problem, which are you going to choose, ”Quit life, or be smart and manage your time wisely”?

All in all this was a decent satire, not that I know much about them. I noticed that it is kind of choppy, there’s no introduction to the ideas. I feel like this satire was forced rather than thought out. Don’t try so hard and maybe your writing would be more comfortable. Also, there were some minor grammar issues but other than these small things, it is a pretty good piece! ~Prometheus

The second time I read it and it’s pretty funny, humor is a very powerful tool when used correctly, your ideas had great potential, they just needed a little more elaboration. The beginning did grab my attention too, you presented a problem that all of us deal with (usually daily) and made it fun to think about. ~Prometheus (again)

I think that my writting should be classified as a satire. I adressed a problem and came up with solutions that were humerous/outrageous, as well as intergrating irony into the writting. I agree that i had gramatical errors and it was a little choppy, but i belive the structure was correct in an attempt to create a satire.

I would also like to add that i used teniques like sarcasm and wit to adress the everyday problem people face. I tried to make it humerous and interesting in order to relate the problem to the reader.

Satire- final copy
Just about everyone has problems with time. It seems we all complain about how much we have to do or how little time we have to do it. We waste time. Or do we? Things that we are said to be wasting time on are things we must do. They are important. I need to watch TV, lay on the couch, and just sit around. These things are vital and should not be considered as wasting time.
Everyone is said to waste time. Many people state that they have too much to do and how they will never find time to get it all done. They feel that they cannot cut anything out of their day or they would be missing out on important aspects of their lives. The main thing is watching television. But in reality, watching TV is very important. I need to watch Sportscenter. And what would people do without their soap operas? A recent study shown that the average American watches five to six hours of TV a day.(20/20) This is not all that much. If you ask me we need to spend more time watching TV, and just lay around. I mean really, how many Americans can say all they do is just sit around and do nothing? This is not a waste of time and more Americans should be watching more TV.
Another thing we are accused of doing is sleeping to much. How can you sleep too much? I don’t think we get enough sleep. The average person should get twelve to thirteen hours a night. Anything less is unacceptable. You should sleep more than you are awake. Those who seep five to eight hours a night are hurting themselves, both physically and mentally, and need to get more sleep.
One more thing we must consider is school. Some think that it takes up too much of the day, with sports and the extracurricular activities. School is not long enough. Kids have too much time to go play sports and do their homework. It seems that they always have too much free time on their hands. Most kids can go to bed early but we need to extend their days so they don’t go to bed until twelve or one in the morning. Kids don’t stay up late enough because they never have anything else to do. The only way to fix this is to make the school days longer.
People don’t waste time. The things they do in their lives are very important like watching TV, sleeping all day and spending all day in school/sports, and doing homework. If anything, we have too much time. Most people don’t have their plates full. They need to pack a little more into their day. So when making your priorities put sleep, sitting around, and just being lazy first!
